In part one of “You are not a failure” I talked about the Ray Bradbury quote “Any man who keeps working is not a failure.”
I got a different perspective on failure from National Geographic writer Hannah Bloch who makes a good case for why failure is an option because – where would we be without it.
“Failure – never sought, always dreaded, impossible to ignore- is the specter that hovers over every attempt at exploration… Without the sting of failure to spur us to reassess and rethink, progress would be impossible…Wanting to exceed your grasp is the nature of the human condition. There’s no magic to getting where we already know we can get.”
Though I’m not planning on climbing Everest or trekking to the North Pole (I would like to fly over it one day) we each have our goals and the ever present obstacles and setbacks. If you are determined to classify those setbacks as failures than let it motivate you to do better next time or as Bloch says “Fail better.”
“When women fail their failure must be a challenge to others.”
