About

I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland with my fat cat bureaucrat partner, a neurotic cat with an eating disorder and two Jack Russels with anger management issues. Fortunately I’m a therapist for humans not animals.

Writing has been a passion for many years and I love the opportunity to stretch my creative muscles by writing fiction as well as nonfiction. Inspiration truly is everywhere.

In my clinical practice I’ve had the privilege of working with amazing and courageous people over the years. Many of my clients had already tried other counsellors and were familiar with the standard depression and self esteem resources. They came to me looking for something different. I spent years looking for a resource that was complimentary with others tools and comprehensive without being complicated. I realised I had to stop searching and develop an engaging and unique resource myself and commit to taking responsibility for sharing the information and that’s how the Hope Challenge was conceived.

The concept for “24 seconds” has been rattling around in my muse inbox since I did my psychology thesis on relationships between traumatic events and levels of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Combing my research and counselling background with my love of science fiction has been a true labour of love.

    Hi Gretchen,
I am a friend of Ben’s and was asking him what has happened to your blog, I enjoyed reading your thoughts last year, and have not seen anything this year. His response was, and I quote “Send her an email and tell her she is a slack arse”. He also insists that you are privileged to have him as a brother – I think he may the privileged one….
Considering that I would not use such language towards someone I have yet to meet, I would prefer to encourage you to continue your thinking out loud on the blog. I am particularly interested in your thoughts on trauma and working as I do as a coach, in partnership, with people experiencing trauma.
    Cheers,
    Linley
